God's Sovereignty

God is Sovereign in All Things

On a day like today as we anticipate severe weather that comes from Hurricane Irma and reflect on this anniversary of 9/11, it is good to be reminded of God's sovereignty over all things and situations. We are not in control, but we have access to the One who is!

The heading in my Bible over this passage in Psalm 46 is, “God the Refuge of His People”. How appropriate for today and what a comfort that is.

"1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea;
3 Though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake at its swelling pride."

This Psalm ends the way it begins, with a strong emphasis on God and His sovereignty.

10 Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold.”

The Lord is our stronghold, no matter what we are facing. Whether it be a literal hurricane or a figurative storm in our life, He can be trusted. Maybe you are going through a storm today in your personal life. If so, believe that HE IS your refuge and strength.

As we remember the events of 9/11/2001 we can live in faith not in fear.

The promise in Psalm 46:10 is as true on 9/11/17 as it was true on 9/11/01.  "I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth”
We may not understand all that is going on in our world but our loving Heavenly Father is with us and is our stronghold. Today, like all days, take refuge in HIM and His promises.
