Program & Curriculum

“Producing Reproducers”

Haven Of Rest Ministries neither promotes nor teaches a particular theological slant or doctrine but purposefully selects tools that present an overall understanding of the “whole counsel of God” enabling the student to test for themselves what they hear in every walk of life by the infallible Word of God.

PHASE ONE

Breaking Ground & Laying Foundations (3 months)

“For thus says the Lord to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem, break up your fallow ground, and do not sow among thorns” (Jeremiah 4:3)

Firm Foundations: Creation To Christ – McIIwain/Everson

Presents a survey of the Bible understandable enough for those with little previous knowledge, while providing a systematic presentation of the salvation message throughout the Old Testament to the resurrection. This study also addresses the question posed in the mind of the student with regards to salvation, ‘Have I done it correctly?’, and encourages them to ask more rightly, ‘Has the Lord Jesus Christ done everything on their behalf correctly to satisfy the Father?’.  Rather than focusing on any one part, the survey chronologically explains and blends the Bible’s greatest events and themes.  Upon completion, the student will find themselves, through the superintending of the Holy Spirit, believing the written word like never before and trusting the finished work of the living Word, Jesus Christ alone for their salvation.

Grace Discipleship Workbook -  Lee C. Turner, Ph. D

One of the best interactive tools available today apart from the Bible for helping one gain a working understanding of what it means to be “in Christ."  Presented in workbook form, identification truths are presented in a user friendly format supported by illustrations and charts enabling the student to interact with essential life changing truths on all levels of learning.

* This course carries a Monday evening one on one session between the resident and an experienced discipler equipped to interact with and aid the student as he processes the truths of this study.

The Knowledge Of The Holy – A.W. Tozer

A look at the attributes of God and their meaning in the Christian life.  “What comes to our minds when we think of God may be the most important thing about us.” (Tozer)  While people are filled with their own self-righteousness, it is useless to try to force the Gospel on them.  Our God focus robs us of our self focus and that becomes an open door for the Holy Spirit to plant truth.

PHASE TWO

Building Blocks – (6 months)

Strings or threads through the scriptures, like a lawyer building his case, was Jesus’ the master teacher's method for relaying truth.

Beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.  And they said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?”(Luke 24:27,32)

Self-Confrontation - John C. Broger (ongoing)

The purpose of this manual is to teach the child of God how to examine themselves biblically so they can live in a manner that pleases the Lord and help others do the same.  The student will learn how to study the scriptures for life’s answers.  Daily homework and memory work, are designed to reinforce key concepts for continued growth through obedience to God’s Word.  The student is taught not just what the Bible says, but how to use it for themselves as the lifelong equipping tool for their journey of faith, regardless of circumstances, relationships, or life’s tests.

This study carries a Monday evening one-on-one interactive lab to help the student understand and receive helpful feedback on required homework.  Supplemental worksheets are explained in detail and checked for proper use, providing the student a comfort level with these tools and a familiarity that will encourage lifelong usage.

Book StudyRomans (ongoing)

Some say the greatest single theological book in the New Testament.

Book Study - Proverbs (ongoing)

A practical study of how to practice the truths of Proverbs

Advanced Grace Discipleship - Lee C. Turner, Ph.D. (12 weeks)

Why do some believers who understand their identity in Christ sometimes fail so miserably?  Because they’ve not anchored their faith deeply in the great truths of who God is and how He works.  They oscillate from the exhilarating high of the freedom they have found in Christ to the depressing low of life’s trials. This course will take the question marks of life and straighten them into exclamation marks.

Spiritual Warfare: Biblical Truth For Victory  -  Lawless (9 weeks)

Presents ways to know if you are in spiritual warfare, reasons warfare may persist, and actions to take during warfare.  The study also explores the schemes of Satan against individual believers.

Putting On the Armor of God  - Chuck Lawless (7 weeks)

It is God’s will for each of our lives to deploy us with the gospel, fully armed and equipped for battle. The basis for victory in spiritual warfare is a personal love relationship with Jesus Christ.

PHASE THREE

Sanctuaries – (3 months)

Let them construct a sanctuary for Me, that I may dwell in them.  (Exodus 25:8)

Experiencing God – Henry Blackabey

Finding out where God is working and getting involved in what He is doing is the basic theme of this study.  As the student progresses into this phase of the curriculum, he begins to understand himself as being in Christ and Christ in Him.  The student now sees himself as a sanctuary, the address of the creator God himself.

At this point, the resident is free to pursue outside work while practicing the truths learned thus far.  Experiencing God helps the student process and talk about the experiences of walking “in Christ” in the world.  As he obediently follows Christ he   takes on his new title as a disciple maker

This course requires weekly meetings and written weekly homework.

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the chief corner stone, growing into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the spirit. (Ephesians 3:19-22)
